The Government's new €1bn housing plan announced earlier this week aims to increase stock and drive down the cost of construction. Development levies to local authorities for the construction of homes will also be temporarily scrapped for 12 months while grants of up to €70,000 will be provided for vacant and derelict properties.
Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Niamh Smyth, says the move will prove beneficial to rural Ireland, in particular.
Speaking to the Wider View, she highlighted how CSO figures identified thousands of derelict and vacant properties not just in Cavan and Monaghan but right across the country. Deputy Smyth began by pointing to the announcement and highlighting its significance.
