The Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme was introduced to support businesses with increases in their electricity or natural gas (energy) costs. Businesses and charities that have experienced significant increase of 50% or more in its electricity and/or natural gas average unit price can apply under the scheme.
Qualifying businesses can claim for 40% of the increases in their energy bills. But there has been a low uptake, as there has been with a number of supports - including the €500 tax credit for private renters - that were introduced by the Government to assist people through the cost of living crisis.
Senator Robbie Gallagher spoke to the Wider View about the matter. He began by highlighting the high percentage of businesses that have failed to take advantage of TBESS.
