Cavan and Monaghan mushrooms growers have been working in the sector in the face of a major obstacle which prevents them from accessing Irish peat to grow their produce.
Since the ban on extracting peat from Irish bogs for environmental reasons came into effect, local producers have had to import peat and come up with innovative alternatives that would allow them to continue trading.
Local Sinn Féin TD, Matt Carthy, has been speaking to Northern Sound.
He said everyone agrees the harvesting of peat must be phased out but importing it from other countries is not environmentally beneficial.
He also said the Government should do more to help local mushroom growers to overcome what he calls a "nonsensical" planning "debacle".
Zoe Tunney has been speaking to Deputy Matt Carthy.
