A Co Cavan based charity says there's no doubt the current cold snap is going to be a very tough few days for our homeless.

The Kingscourt charity, Help Our Homeless feed homeless people across Dublin 365 days a year.

Sonya McMahon says that her 'Help Our Homeless' community group; that is run by her and her family; will have extra supplies and teams out over the coming days to try and help keep them warm and alive during this bitter spell.

Temperatures as low as minus 12 degrees could be experienced over the coming days, while a weather advisory for sleet and snow will kick in at midnight tonight. The latest figures from the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive estimates there are 128 people sleeping outside in the capital.

She says she just hopes that they will survive these very low temperatures that are expected over the coming days. The local woman says that she has been helping the homeless for the past five years. Sonya said seeing it first hand day in day out what these people have to endure all year around especially in sub zero temperatures. Ronan Gargan has been speaking to the local woman about the current situation.
