A Monaghan councillor says it's important for a Muslim representative to be involved in a local Day of Remembrance and Recognition for those who died during the covid-pandemic.

Sinn Féin's Sean Conlon also noted the importance of being "all-inclusive" at the event.

On the 18th of March, there will be a public holiday to remember those who lost their lives due to Covid and to recognise the front-line workers and volunteers.

On the same date, a Remembrance and Recognition event will be held in St Mary's Hospital, Castleblayney, at 11 am.

An Imam is a person who has a leadership position in an Islamic community, and Sean Conlon requested that an Imam be invited to the Castleblayney event.

Representatives from Christian denominations will be present, and Sean Conlon told a recent County Council meeting it's important to also recognise those of the Muslim faith who worked on the front line during the pandemic, particularly in the health service.
