A firefighter that was on his last shift after a 42 year career rescued 28 calves trapped in a slurry tank near Cullyhanna, close to the Monaghan/Armagh border.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when Commander John Holmes was working his last day for the Northern Ireland Fire service.
It meant he missed a barbecue that was organised at Newcastle Fire Station to bid him farewell.
