Cavan County Council is to invite the Garda Commissioner to meet with local councillors to discuss propsed plans to amalgamate the Cavan, Monaghan and Louth Garda divisions.
It is hoped that political pressure on Drew Harris may lead to the reversal of the Commissioner's controversial decision to form the three-county division.
Cavan-Belturbet Councillor John Paul Feeley has told Northern Sound similar plans for other parts of the country like Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, have been scrapped following politicalpressure and other considerations recently.
He says an area from the east coast of the country and just north of county Dublin to Dowra and Ballyconnell in west Cavan is "too vast" an area for one division to police.
