A Monaghan GP says there's "an air of excitement" after vaccinating 72 people in their practice this morning.
This weekend marks a year since the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Ireland.
Health officials say there are "reasons to be hopeful" but there's still a lot of uncertainty over a return to normality.
It comes after an 80 percent drop in Covid-19 cases in residential settings in a single week.
The HSE says it's the first indication that the vaccination rollout is taking effect - with a drop in cases also amongst staff in hospitals.
Level 5 restrictions are extended nationwide until April 5th, but the spread of the virus has dropped significantly since the start of the year, particularly in County Monaghan.
