Fianna Fáil TD Niamh Smyth has said a new respite house for Monaghan will be operational by October 1st.
Yesterday evening, the Minister for Disabilities Anne Rabbitte travelled to Monaghan to meet with various groups working with children and adults with special needs.
Discussions went on for several hours where we heard from HSE staff, representatives from Monaghan adults respite service, Steadfast House, and a delegation from SNAP, the Special Needs Active Parents, support group." "The Minister announced that €3.1 million euro has been secured for a brand-new Respite facility in Monaghan. Obviously, this will take some time to acquire and build. So in the interim, the Talbot Group have been awarded the contract to provide respite at a location in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.
This will be operation 7/7. The facility will be 5 bedded residential respite house inclusive of a self-contained apartment. The respite service will be procured with full time nursing support. Ronan Gargan has been talking to Deputy Niamh Smyth.
