Aontú leader and Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín, who was the first to raise the campaign by the Women of Honour in the Dáil 18 months ago, says the State owes these women a debt of gratitude for their courageous campaign to shine a light on the horrendous litany of abuse within the Defence Forces.
Deputy Tobin was responding to Tainiste Micheal Martin's comments following a report yesterday highlighted how at best, women were tolerated in the Defence Forces and at worst, were verbally, physically, sexually and psychologically abused.
He says the Terms of Reference that will underpin the promised Independent Statutory Inquiry will be developed in agreement with the Women of Honour, who when they went to seek justice were "blocked and prevented".
Deputy Tobin highlighted how the independent report is a significant milestone towards justice saying that some men are victims in this abuse within the Defence Forces.
The Meath West TD has been speaking to our reporter Ronan Gargan about yesterdays damming report.
Ronan started his conversation with Deputy Peadar Toibin asking him was he shocked by the the findings with this independent report.
