At this week's Monaghan MD meeting, councillors sought funding for flood remediation works by Monaghan Town Shopping Centre.
There's been flooding in many parts in the past week, but the area in question has been highlighted as an area of immediate concern back in 2001.
Despite this, it wasn't added a national priority list.
€400,000 in funding has been allocated, but councillors say the works will cost over €10 million and that the €400,000 will only cover design works.
In September of last year, German retailer Aldi halted plans for a store in Monaghan town after talks with the local authority on flood mitigation works stalled.
Sinn Féin councillor Brian McKenna warned that the MD could be talking about this issue for years to come.
