The Government is introducing the Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022 and the Bill is coming before the Seanad next week.
Cllr Sarah O'Reilly discussed some of the issues with the Bill that are now emerging during a recent meeting of Cavan County Council.
Speaking to the Wider View this week, she said that while she is opposed to all forms of discrimination and incitement to violence, everyone who lives in this country and who is a citizen of this country "must have equal rights".
First, though, she began by highlighting three areas within the Bill that are causing her concern.
