Cavan and Monaghan going to finally get a train - in 26 years' time? That's the hope after a report published yesterday.
A government report has recommended a new rail line to link Cavan and Armagh. Indeed, the recommendation was also included in the All-Island Strategic Railway review. The report sets out recommendations to enhance and expand the rail system in Ireland and the North up to 2050.
Among the recommendations is the reinstatment of the railway between Athlone and Portadown. This would include stops in Cavan, Clones, Monaghan, Armagh and Portadown, allowing links to Belfast
Our reporter Eoghan Murphy has been speaking to Cavan-Monaghan TD Brendan Smith, from Fianna Fáil. He first asked him if there is the political will to act on the recommendations.
