Local Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has said it is "totally unacceptable" that it has taken three years for Portuguese police to add Cavan woman Jean Tighe to a missing persons database.

The Cavan-Monaghan TD called on the authorities in Portugal to answer what he calls the "legitimate" questions of the family who he described as "distraught".

Cavan woman Jean Tighe disappeared, aged 38, from Parede, a Portuguese holiday resort, on July 13, 2020.

Deputy Smith said last week marked three years since the Cavan native was seen.

"Despite numerous requests, it took until last Monday to get Jean's name on the missing persons database.
