Bird Flu doesn't recognise any borders, that's the message from one West Cavan poultry farmer.
Garret Bannan who farms 20,000 free range hens in Bawnboy says the disease holds no discrimination against anyone. The local man was reacting to the news that 64,000 birds had been culled at a commercial premises in Dungannon, on the Tyrone side of the border over the weekend following a suspected case of bird flu being identified.
Speaking on the Wider View earlier this week, IFA Poultry Vice Chair Brendan Soden said for months, the IFA have been closely monitoring the spread of Avian Influenza across Europe, and unfortunately, the risk has now reached our doorstep. Bawnboy farmer, Garreth Bannan has been speaking to Ronan Gargan about the issue.
