Ban on burning solid fuels. Aontú Cavan County Counillor Sarah O'Reilly believes a new piece of of proposed legislation is alarming. Chiefly, if passed in the Dáil, the legislation would give the Minister for the Environment powers to ban certain types of fuel.
The general election candidate is calling the "Air Pollution Amendment Bill" "radical" and anti-rural". Indeed, Cllr O'Reilly is highly critical of what her party is calling the "wide-ranging" powers it gives to any Minister.
Cllr O'Reilly suggests that if turf is banned for use in the home, people may be stopped returning from the bog. Additionally, their vehicles searched and themselves detained under the proposed legislation.
She told Zoe Tunney the plans are "outrageous".
