Monaghan County Council is set to receive funding for projects that encourage women and people of diverse communities to get involved in Local Government.
Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Peter Burke, says the funding will support initiatives that ensure more gender balance and diversity in Local Government.
Fifteen Local Authorities nationwide will receive funding of over €140,000 for twenty-three projects over the next 12 months.
Of this, €13,000 is headed to Monaghan County Council to establish a Women's Assembly and for "capacity building with elected members".
Aoife McCooey is a Fianna Fail Councillor in Castleblayney – and one of three female elected representatives on the local authority.
She joined Aaron McElroy on The Wider View to explain more about the funding, and the barriers stopping people from entering politics.
