94 per cent of the people hospitalised with anorexia last year were female.
237 people needed inpatient treatment due to the disorder, which has the highest death rate of all mental illnesses.
According to freedom of information figures, 222 were female and just 15 were male.
This also raises questions over why more men are not treated and if there is a stigma still present in relation to eating disorders in men.
