A local councillor says there's "shock, devastation, and anger" in the community with the announcement that a Co Monaghan nursing home is set to close.
Following "serious review and reflection", Evergreen Care has taken the decision to close Sacred Hearts Nursing Home in Clones.
Evergreen Care, which runs Sacred Hearts, says it's no longer assured the nursing home "can comply with the ever-evolving environmental regulations given the age and layout of the building".
The decision was announced to residents, their families, and staff last week.
In a statement, Evergreen Care has committed to engaging with residents and their families to select an appropriate alternative and will offer staff employment in its other nursing homes.
Evergreen Care added that it is "extremely sorry to close the doors to this home, which has provided an essential service to the community of Clones for many decades".
