That's according to Cavan priest, Father PJ Hughes.
He added that the hope of the resurrection can provide comfort to those who suffer, like Jesus did on the cross.
Meanwhile, just over a year has passed since Roscommon couple James and Ann Ryan were stopped on their way to Fr PJ's church in Mullahoran, Co Cavan.
Fr PJ held mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church during the covid lockdown, and last week in Cavan District Court, James and Ann Ryan were fined €300 each for travelling to Sunday Mass there on the 28th of March, in 2021.
Our reporter, Diarmuid Pepper, asked Father PJ for his reaction to these fines for breaching covid law on non-essential travel, but began by asking the Cavan priest to explain the significance of Holy Thursday:
