A Sinn Féin councillor has called for Minister Heather Humphreys to meet with Monaghan councillors to discuss local issues such as the N2 Clontibret to the Border road project and the opening hours of the Minor Injury Unit at Monaghan Hospital.
Sean Conlon told yesterday’s Monaghan County Council meeting that councillors had been shouting out for a local government minister for years.
Now that the region has one in the form of Minister Humphreys, Councillor Conlon says more must be done to advance these local issues.
However, other councillors, such as Fine Gael’s David Maxwell, said Minister Humphreys is committed to the region and has delivered a lot for it.
Sean Conlon spoke to our reporter, Diarmuid Pepper, and he began by explaining his motivation behind his motion seeking a meeting with Minister Humphreys:
