A Cavan resident receiving HAP says she has pleaded with the council, local representatives, and her landlord to do something about the state of the home she is currently renting.
She has been entitled to the Housing Assistance Payment since May 2019, she pays €60 a month, while Cavan County Council pays €550 rent, to the landlord.
However, Triona Coates, says the condition of the house is a 'disgrace' and 'awful', with mould and damp in some of the rooms, a faulty boiler, and issues with the water and toilet facilities.
The council has said that they are behind on their inspections of properties that they are currently paying for under the HAP scheme due to Covid and they cannot comment on individual cases, and the landlord has also stated that he has 'no comment at this time'.
Triona has been describing her living situation with Sheila Naughton and is asking to council to come inspect the property:
