'Extreme winds' to hit Cavan and Monaghan. "Extreme winds" are set to hit Cavan and Monaghan tomorrow. That's according to Met Eireann forecaster and Magheracloone man Gerry Murphy. Indeed, Gerry described Storm Eowyn as a "severe weather event".  This is because, for the first time ever, status red wind warnings have been put in place throughout the island of Ireland.

Met Eireann, and the British Met Office, have a total of six red alerts. These run from the early hours of tomorrow morning. The red weather warning will be in place for counties Cavan and Monaghan from 6am tomorrow until 11am. Jodie Curran spoke with Gerry Murphy who gave an update as to what people can expect from Storm Eowyn across the Northern Sound region:
