Every parent laments the amount of time young people spend on mobile phones and other devices but, for one Cavan County Councillor, the issue has become something she wants to change.
Áine Smith is also a schoolteacher and when she saw how the village of Greystones in County Wicklow came together to agree a 'no smartphone voluntary code' her interest was piqued.
The parents' associations in all eight schools in Greystones were responding to rising rates of childhood anxiety amongst their young people. Earlier this month, Councillor Smith proposed a motion to restrict the use of mobile phones among primary schools in her local area.
