Women's health was to the fore at this week's meeting of Cavan County Council. Cllr Aine Smith called for the support of her fellow councillors in her motion that called on the Department of Health to invest more in clinical treatments for women.
During proceedings she highlighted how the lack of awareness around endometriosis was causing millions of women across the world to suffer in silence. Speaking to the Wider View, Cllr Smith said it was a chronic and debilitating illness that often led to more serious health issues because diagnosis and treatments were limited.
First though, she began by explaining why it is so important to speak up about endometriosis.
