LISTEN BACK: Why non-native English speakers feel they need to work harder than Irish colleagues

A recent study has found that non-native English speakers feel they need to work harder than Irish colleagues to climb the career ladder.

While the AllTalk Training survey found foreign workers feel welcome in Ireland, over 60% of non-native English speakers here say they need to work extra harder than their Irish peers to progress in the workplace or have their work recognised.

AllTalk Training is a training provider that specialises in communication and collaboration for multicultural workplaces.

It conducted a focus group research with 80 non-native English speakers from across 24 countries.

Over 80% of the respondents have advanced or a 'near-native' level of English, but despite this, the research shows non-native speakers believe they face challenges within Irish workplaces.

Brigid Farrell is the founder of AllTalk Training, and she spoke to our reporter Diarmuid Pepper about the findings.
