A young county Monaghan man has raised the issue of living with bowel disease ahead of world inflammatory bowel disease day.
Andrew Kieran from Killanny near Carrickmacross was diagnosed nine year ago with Ulcerative Colitis.
Andrew, a former Ulster Minor Championship winner with Monaghan in 2013 was diagnosed with the condition in May 2014.
His initial symptoms included fatigue and passing blood and using the toilet up to 20 times daily.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show earlier, Andrew said he had tried several different treatments including drugs, steroids and blood transfusions until he decided to undergo surgery in January of 2017.
The 28 year old Monaghan man says a large amount of people that are diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis will be able to live a normal life on maintenance drugs to regulate the disease.
Speaking to Joe Finnegan, Andrew says that timing was everything when he initially sought medical attention and following his surgery 6 years ago life is good for the Killlanny man.
