We could see up to 10 centimetres of snow in some parts of the country today. A yellow weather warning is in place until 11 o'clock tonight, with sleet, ice and accumulations of snow all expected.
Alan O' Reilly of Carlow Weather says the severity of the weather will vary across the country. "It certainly can have significant impacts in some areas with a mix of rain, sleet and some heavy snow making for very treacherous conditions locally but it is very much variable from one location to another," he explained.
Meanwhile, road conditions in some parts of the country will be treacherous according to the Road Safety Authority. Road users are being advised to check local traffic and weather conditions before setting out and expect difficult driving conditions and reduced visibility. Head of Communications with the RSA Brian Farrell says snow and ice can cause many challenges.
