Today is World Book Day and pupils from schools across Cavan and Monaghan turned-out in their droves. World Book Day is an event that promotes reading for pleasure and offers every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Johnston Library in Cavan Town hosted a story time session for 50 schools across Co Cavan earlier today.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Catherine Lee from Johnston Library revealed that boys and girls were "happy" to listen to stories and get dressed-up as their favourite book characters.
The Cavan librarian said it was "great" to see a smile on the faces of young people as they explore new worlds, meet new characters and develop new ideas. Catherine continued; "World Book Day is a great way to celebrate the wonderful value of books in our lives and especially in the lives of children. Books are a great way for our young people to explore new worlds, meet new characters and explore and develop new ideas. Books can help children develop their social skills and vocabulary and reading books together as a family is a lovely way for parents to spend time with their children."
