The first on-site meeting took place at the proposed new Bailieborough Garda Station this week.
Works on the new building at the former National Irish Bank in the town are set to commence in January.
The project was first announced in 2007 after the current garda station premises was deemed unfit for purpose.
The development will see the building refurbished and the addition of a three-storey extension.
Cavan Fianna Fail TD, Niamh Smyth said her understanding is that set up works will commence after this week’s meeting with development works beginning in January.
She added that she had been in contact with local Gardaí with regard to the developments and will continue to impress the need for the new station to be completed at the earliest possible date.
