Ten years after it was promised, works have commenced on the new Gael Scoil Lorgan in Castleblayney.
Deputy Niamh Smyth has confirmed that diggers have arrived on site for the new school which will be located on the Shercock Rd.
In May of this year, the Minister for Education Norma Foley gave the green light to this project for Castleblayney to the delight of the staff, children and their families. The new build will include 8 classrooms and 2 SET rooms.
Minister Foley came to visit the school in mid-June and 8 weeks later workers are on site preparing for this project under the Large-Scale Capital Programme. Deputy Smyth said the project is expected to reach completion in quarter 4 of 2025. She says this has been a long time coming but is very welcome news by the people of the wider Castleblayney area.
