Working hours and running costs are resulting in a shortage of taxi drivers.
That's according to local taxi operator, and Ballyjamesduff councillor, Trevor Smith and comes amid an appeal from the Restaurants Association of Ireland for government action to address the issue.
They say the lack of taxis is particularly bad between 11pm and 3am, and is putting people off going out.
Meanwhile, Justice Minister Helen McEntee has promised to introduce legislation this autumn to allow pubs and nightclubs to open until the early hours of the morning.
Cllr Smith told The Wider View that there is a "two-hour rush" and "panic" around closing time for taxis, and added that extending opening hours would help alleviate this.
