Work is underway to open a new community centre for Ballyconnell.
Funding was allocated by the Arts Council under the creative places fund to invest in places that have had fewer opportunities to take part in the arts. Now, a new fundraising campaign has just been launched to fund the opening of a much needed community centre for the town of Ballyconnell in Co.Cavan, Chairperson of the Community Centre group, Taragh Donohoe, says the planned centre would provide huge benefits to a diverse town such as Ballyconnell.
"Ballyconnell is a border town and is also a town that has seen huge growth in terms of so many nationalisties now calling Ballyconnell home. We're a big community and there's nowhere for us to come together and to take part in things as a community so I really see this as a way for people to gather, to socialise, to learn things, for our children to haev somewhere to go so that that they can make friends and have a great childhood".
