Construction of the new health and care centre in Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, is set to commence within weeks. That's according to the North's Department of Health which gave the green light for the long-overdue facility yesterday evening.
The need for a new health centre for the area was first mooted in the early 2000s, planning for it began in earnest in 2019. Once operational, the new hub will support a network of 16 GPs and provide services to around 30,000 people in the Lisnaskea and surrounding East Fermanagh area. Recognising that "people have been waiting for some time on this news", Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt said he "appreciates that primary care services are under particular strain in the East Fermanagh area" but insisted it was imperative that his department carried out the necessary checks and balances were completed before proceeding."
When completed, the new health centre on the site of the former Lisnaskea High School will provide increased multi-disciplinary provision in areas such as podiatry, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, mental health services and older people services.
