Deputy Smyth says it's highly important for all sporting organisations to have safeguards in place so that women today are not in any danger or harm.

The FAI is holding a media briefing this morning following allegations made by female football players in the 1990's. Multiple female players have come forward to allege inappropriate behaviour and inappropriate sexual advances from certain FAI coaches at the time. The named officials deny any wrongdoing.

Cavan-Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Niamh Smyth is Chair of the Oireachtas Committee Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht. According to Deputy Smyth, it's "important" that safeguards are in place in all sporting bodies; "The most concerning thing for us as a committee is to be sure that the FAI and all sporting organisations have safeguards in place so that women today are not in any danger or harm, that they're protected and most importantly that if they feel there are misdemeanours happening  or that they're in anyway compromised that their voice can be heard."
