The woman murdered at her home in West Cavan on the outskirts of Ballyconnell home last night has been named locally.
Annie Heyneman was found dead at the family home on Derrycassan Lane close to Kilnavart church at around 9.30pm last night.
It is understood she has been stabbed several times. Her husband Henk received serious injuries during the incident and was taken to Cavan General Hospital with serious injuries but he has been described as stable at this time.
Annie is a native of the wider Ballyconnell area while Henk is originally from the Netherlands but has lived in area for decades.
The couple have been described as extremely popular in the area.
A man in his was arrested and is currently being detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Cavan area.
Gardai have issued an appeal for information that includes anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert of Ballyconnell last night, Saturday, January 11th, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
