Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation after the body of a woman in her 50s was found at a home following an incident near Ballyconnell.
Gardaí said they were alerted to a serious incident in at a rural home on a cul de sac in Kilnavart near Ballyconnell at approximately 9.30pm last night.
The woman's body was discovered by gardaí at the scene and a man in his 60s was seriously injured and was brought to Cavan General Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
One man (aged in his 30’s) was arrested at a separate location, and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co. Cavan area.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.
Anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, last night, Saturday 11th January 2025, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, is asked to provide Gardaí with any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings.
