Gardaí in Carrickmacross are investigating a serious assault on a woman in her 60s.
The woman was found with serious injuries at a house in the County Monaghan Town yesterday afternoon.
She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where her condition has been described today as critical but stable.

A man in his 20s was arrested in relation to this assault and is being detained at a garda station in Monaghan.
