A woman has been given €200 fine after taking a phone containing cash from a retail store in Cavan.
Aurelia Cirpaciu pleaded guilty at Cavan District court to taking the Huawei phone, which contained cash and three IDs in its holder, from a Euro Giant store on Main Street, Cavan.
A customer left her phone on a counter, and Ms Cirpaciu, aged 37 and of Holborn Hill, Belturbet, took the phone.
A garda told the court that "no attempt had been made to return the phone".
However, Ms Cirpaciu's solicitor said she picked up the phone by mistake and didn't mean to do so.
The court was then told that she placed the phone in a post box, "thinking that it would find its way home".
