The popular 'The Wilde Sisters' short film which was directed and produced by Monaghan's very own Taine King will feature at the Dublin International Film Festival. The festival runs for 11 days from the 20th of February to Sunday the 2nd of March, and the Wilde Sisters will be showcased on Wednesday the 26th of February at 1:30pm in the Lighthouse Cinema. The short-film focuses on the deaths of Emily and Mary Wilde, the half-sisters of Irish poet, novelist and dramatist, Oscar Wilde. The sisters lost their lives in a tragic fire at Drumaconnor House just off the Monaghan/Clones road back in 1871.
Local actress Joanne Brennan who played Emily Wilde said she was "fascinated" with the story when Taine approached her with the script. Joanne said she was "immediately compelled" by the story of the Wilde Sisters and felt so moved by it. Speaking to Northern Sound, Joanne said she is overwhelmed by the success so far of the short film adding that it was a "great opportunity" to work on something so special in her home county:
