Wild deer is putting people's lives at risk on our regional roads according to one local councillor.
Cllr. Aine Smith brought a motion before elected members of Cavan County Council this week to write a letter to Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue to raise the issue of road safety when it comes to deer.
According to a national survey released this week 80 per cent of people believe deer are negatively impacting biodiversity, damaging crops and impacting road safety.
The 15 hundred respondents of this survey called for larger culls to be carried out.
Councillor Aine Smith says culling is needed but it must be carried out in an ethical way.
Speaking to Northern Sound the Cavan Councillor said that she was prompted by bringing this motion ahead of this months meeting by hearing one local woman's story of a near miss with a deer.
