Everything is on the table when it comes to housing and we are looking at everything when it comes to the supplying of homes.
That’s the view of local Minister Heather Humphreys who has been reacting to the upcoming eviction ban in the coming days.
Minister Humphreys told Northern Sound News that the eviction ban was not working and action needed to be taken. When asked about what someone should do who has an eviction notice currently pending she said they should contact their local authority.
The Monaghan native said there has been increased funding provided to local authorities to purchase buildings and to repurpose old buildings. Minister Heather Humphreys has been responding to the comments made by local TD Matt Carthy on Northern Sound last week that she along with other TD’s who voted to end the eviction ban were making people homeless.
"I absolutely do not agree with that. We're not putting anybody on the streets and I know this is difficult but unfortunately, the eviction ban was not working and we needed to take this action and we are working very hard with the local authorities but particularly a man who does unprecedented investment in Monaghan in terms of providing social housing and I just wanted to compliment Monaghan county council".
"I think they are one of the best performers in terms of working with the Department of Housing and providing social housing and the same indeed in Cavan. There's a lot of investment in Cavan as well. So you know, it is challenging".
"There's no doubt about that and the answer to this is increased supply and what we are doing as a government is we're going to continue to work with all the stakeholders to increase the supply of houses and that's the bottom line here".
