A special Mass is being held tomorrow to celebrate the 80th birthday of a well-known local priest. Canon Macartan McQuaid who is known to many as 'Father Mac' has served in the priesthood for 55 years.
He was also the principal of St Michael's College in Co Fermanagh from 1978 until 1994, he then was parish priest in Irvinestown for a year, before becoming parish priest in Clones where he spent 10 years.
Blackwater Adult learning centre at Ballyoisin will host the event that will see many coming out tomorrow to celebrate with Father Macartan to mark this significant occasion.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Father Macartan revealed that the last 55 years in the priesthood "couldn't have been any better.”
"In our job it does give you an opportunity to meet so many diverse people; young parents at the Baptism of their children or First Holy Communion, grieving people at times of sickness and death, whilst trying to be some kind of a reminder to people of all ages and stages that God is good, God is near and God is important."
