A Monaghan GP says there is heightened anxiety across society after two years of living with the Covid-19 pandemic .
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Dr Ilona Duffy said that she is seeing more cases of anxiety in her surgery with every passing week.
She added that anxious people have a sense of dread; a sense of fear; have a fast heart rate; and are sleep deprived.
For two years now, we have lived with Covid-19 and the fear around that, she added.
As a result people are feeling anxious about being out and about; going back to work; and getting back into society again.
"Understanding anxiety and understanding that it is not a weakness - this is just a learned behaviour for many people," she continued.
"But we can unlearn that behaviour and unlearn that emotional reaction.
"We all have emotional reflexes but we can change that.
"We can learn ways of stopping those anxiety responses."
