Make a plan, check equipment and notify someone of your location before going out on the water. That's the advice for anyone planning to go boating, kayaking or participating in water sports this bank holiday weekend.
Water Safety Ireland along with the RNLI and Coast Guard are launching their "Water Safety Appeal" today.
Killian O'Kelly from the RNLI says being aware of weather conditions is also extremely important: "Don't look at the weather forecast on Monday or Tuesday and make a plan for Saturday or Sunday," Mr O'Kelly said, "Check the forecast just before you go out, check it the day before and , if the forecast is developing in such a way that the area of water you are going pout on doesn't look safe, then make a different plan, change your plan."
