The fire service in Monaghan has issued a warning after a chip pan fire in Monaghan at the weekend.
Fire crews from Carrickmacross and Castleblayney attended the incident on Saturday night.
The fire was caused by the use of an unattended chip pan.
No one was injured during the incident but Monaghan Fire is reminding everyone that unattended chip pans are a major fire hazard and the use of them should be avoided where possible.
Instead they advise the use of a thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer or an airfryer when cooking at home.
Advice on the safe use of chip pans can be found on Monaghan.ie but if one catches fire in your home, turn off the heat source, cover the chip pan with a fire blanket or damp cloth and never throw water on a burning oil fire.
