The Fire Service has issued a warning after rubbish was burned outside Cavan town.
The rubbish was burned illegally in the Moynehall area yesterday evening.
The Fire Service says it was less than a metre from an area of thick gorse and the fire spread quickly across scrubland.
Crews from Cavan town responded and extinguished the fire with beaters and a high-pressure hose.
It comes as a 'high fire risk' was declared for Cavan due to the recent spell of dry weather.
People are warned that areas with dead grasses, heather and gorse are particularly susceptible and the highest risk period runs from today until Monday.
