Gardaí in Castleblayney are investigating a scam involving men who claim to be plain clothes officers.
At around 10.30 yesterday morning, two men impersonating plain clothes gardaí called to the home of an elderly woman in the townland of Errybane.
The men said they were trying to return money that had been recovered locally.
Castleblayney gardaí say other members of the woman's family were present and this ensured the "bogus callers left empty handed".
The two men were accompanied by a third man who remained in the car, which was a black Renault Clio, with a partial registration of 12 KE.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them at Castleblayney Garda Station and to be mindful of vulnerable persons in the community.
