A walk-in GP service has opened its doors to the public in Cavan town. The 'Body Life Clinic' was initially established by Clinical Director, John O'Reilly as a physiotherapy walk-in clinic five years ago.
However, prolonged waiting times and a lack of services for people to access since the pandemic - inspired the Cavan man to open up a walk-in GP clinic, seven days of the week.
Mr O'Reilly revealed that the clinic also offers walk-in gynaecology services, physiotherapy, counselling and a pain management consultant is also based on-site. The site is located opposite the bus station on Casement street in Cavan town.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr O'Reilly said it was important to take a "step back" and listen to the needs of the community.
He added that society "cannot rely" on the Government to source GPs from other countries and instead we must support the GPs and other healthcare professionals that we do have here at present.
"We have to take a step back and listen to what the community needs and people are struggling to get an appointment with their local GP.
"Services are overwhelmed, at the moment we're hitting a population of nearly 100,000 in Cavan, so with the likes of that we have to adapt our businesses for that. A clinic is no different to any other business, it just has to be managed in the correct manner to be able to provide that essential service for local people."
