Voter turnout in the local and European elections is expected to increase into the evening as people finish up work.
Polls remain open until 10 pm. Turnout has been steady across the country since voting centres opened at 7am.
Locally in Cavan, 36% of a turn out is being reported in Ballyconnell in the past few minutes, 23% is being reported in Mountnugent and St Clare's NS in Cavan is at 26%. The turnout in St Anne's NS Bailieborough is now at 30% as of 5.30pm.
In Monaghan 28% has turned out to vote in Clones as of 5.15pm this evening, 23.5% in Monaghan town and 27.5% has turned out so far in Castleblayney.
118 polling booths are open across 51 location in Monaghan, while there is 136 polling booths in 65 locations across Co Cavan. 21,410 people are eligible to vote in the Bailieborough Cootehill Municipal District, 21,217 in the Balljamesduff Municipal District and 19,159 are eligible to vote in the local elections in the Cavan Belturbet Municipal District.
In Monaghan, Ballybay - Clones 15,264, Carrickmacross - Castleblayney 18,436 and in Monaghan Municipal district 19,207 can cast their votes in today's local election. And remember voting centres across the country remain open on 10pm
